Why do You Want an Online Presence?

An online presence is what makes it easy for clients to find you. As I’ve stated before, the Internet is a global phone book where you can find services, products, people, information, research and just about anything you desire.

Building a strong online persona is important if you are in business. It is your business card. It covers your reputation, your brand and your credibility.

Having a strong online presence is a serious endeavor and can make or break your business. The good news is it’s not difficult. You don’t have to be on every social media site – there’s just not enough time in a day to maintain and keep up with posts on multiple sites.

Analyze what you do and what you want to convey to people who may become your clients. Choose judiciously the sites that make the most sense in growing your business and building recognition. Go where your ideal clients hang out.

Whatever you put out on the Internet will be seen by someone. Make sure you are putting out the information you want people to see and know. Avoid those things that do not promote you or your business, like politics, religion, and hot beds of controversy unless that is what your business is about.

Remember, your online presence is for people who do not personally know you, so you want to be sure your presence is easy to find, positive and speaks to who you are and what you do. You want to be clear in what you provide, and the benefits of utilizing your business.

It is also important to have a website, even though you may have heard otherwise. Websites provide information quickly to potential clients and enable them to contact you.

An FAQ page is a great way to answer questions that come up often. Want to connect quickly with people? Have a working phone number on your site. It makes you real, and people like working with real people. Just be sure to answer when the phone rings (or have a message that you will get back in touch within 24 hours – and do it).
